In Memoriam (Information provided by Tom Marchisa)

Donna L. (Stygar) Andrychowski of Connecticut passed on 11/08/2024 .

Obituary

Donna Lee (Stygar) Andrychowski, 77, passed away November 8, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on September 26, 1947, the daughter of the late Albin and Dorothy (Bernard) Stygar.

As Dad tells the story, mom and he lived the dream. Donna and James met, fell in love and were married for 55 years. They created a home filled with love, laughter and two daughters (Christy and Sherry). Donna and Jim gained a wonderful son-in-law when Sherry married Mike Smardon. Donna worked hard for 30 years at UCONN, then retired and started her favorite profession – Bachi daycare for her two amazing granddaughters, Rajchel and Alexandra (Lexi). Donna supported local causes throughout her life; she was an active member of the previous Windham Center Fire Dept. ladies’ auxiliary. Donna spent many hours watching field hockey, tennis and soccer matches, as well as her beloved UCONN basketball teams. She was our biggest cheerleader, the best cook, and always quick with an opinion (wanted or not). Family came first in Donna’s eyes.

In addition to her husband Jim, she is survived by two daughters, Christy Andrychowski and Sherry Smardon and her husband Mike and two granddaughters Rajchel and Alexandra (Lexi); loving sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Rick Urban, and a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Lee Stygar, and many close relatives and friends

In death, as in life, she knew what she wanted, hence earning her the nickname “the General”. There will be no calling hours – she always said “If you can’t visit me when I’m alive, don’t cry over me when I’m dead”. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic, burial will be held at a later date. Please wear bright colors and try to minimize tears!

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Donna’s memory to one of her favorite local charities; Veterans Base Camp at 108 England Rd, Chaplin, CT 06235, or Tara Farm Rescue at 670 Babcock Hill Rd, Coventry, CT, 06238. Most importantly, hug those close to you as often as possible, as life goes by too quick.
